Following transfer interest from the Championship, Karamoko Dembele, a top player on loan from Blackpool, may be given the opportunity to return to England.
The Seasiders Player of the Year is reportedly being courted by Sheffield Wednesday, according to our colleagues at The Star. It is reported that the Owls have discussed a possible trade for the forward with Dembele’s parent team, Stade Brestois 29.
Dembele’s transfer is expected to happen on Wednesday, but it’s not yet certain if the French team would permit him to go. After finishing third in Ligue One, Brest qualified for the Champions League, which will free up cash for them to spend on new players. However, given Dembele’s success with Blackpool during his League One stint, Brest may decide to hold onto him.
Dembele’s efforts during his fruitful loan stint at Bloomfield Road were acknowledged when he took home multiple awards at the end of the season. He was awarded Player of the Season by the Junior Seasiders, Player of the Season by the Players, and Player of the Season by the Supporters.
The 21-year-old was one of the most inventive players in the third division in 2023â24 after participating in 47 games for Blackpool and tallying 14 assists and nine goals. Among those who assisted more than him last season were just Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Harrison Burrows.
Premier League and Championship teams are interested in signing Dembele, who has a deal with Brest that expires in the summer of 2026.
It was claimed in March that Brentford, Everton, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Fulham, and Southampton, along with champions Leicester City and play-off winners Southampton, had all kept an eye on him. Middlesbrough and Leeds United, who were defeated last Sunday and are getting ready for another season in the Championship, are also keeping an eye on each other.
