JUST IN: Lions defensive tackle finally makes first official statement after being charged with animal cruelty….

Two dogs were discovered at the home where former Lions defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs had resided, according to records obtained by the Tuscaloosa Patch. As a result, Buggs is being prosecuted on two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

The civil suit states that on March 28, the Tuscaloosa Police Department was notified that two dogs had been left on the back porch of a house at 5153 Diamond Circle.

The petition continues by stating that upon the arrival of Tuscaloosa police and the City of Tuscaloosa’s Animal Control officials, they discovered a grey and white pitbull covered in feces on the screened-in back porch, without food or drink. A black rottweiler mix that was kept in a metal cage in the sun without access to food or water was also discovered by the first responders.

Upon their seizure that day, the canines were found to be “malnourished, emaciated, and neglected.”

The house seemed deserted, and a neighbor reported to the police that the dogs had been spending the last ten days on the back porch. When investigators discovered that Buggs had been renting the house, they also learned that his lease had been terminated on April 15 because he owed more than $3,100 in arrears. According to witnesses, Buggs left the house on or around March 19.

The pitbull turned hostile and refused heartworm medication, necessitating its euthanasia. When the rottweiler got to the shelter, its parvo test came back positive, despite its tiny 52-pound weight.

On March 28, authorities supposedly made an attempt to contact Buggs but were unable. According to the petition, two misdemeanor warrants for second-degree cruelty to dogs or cats have been acquired as of Wednesday.

Charges for animal abuse are anticipated for former Lions defensive end Isaiah Buggs.
In 2022, Buggs signed with the Lions, where he played in all 17 games and started 13 of them. He was a healthy scratch for the season opener last year, and head coach Dan Campbell gave a clear explanation for his benching. It was an unusual start to the season. For unclear reasons, Buggs had skipped OTAs, which undoubtedly shifted the previously favorable opinion of him in the opposite direction.

Before being waived on January 2, Buggs ended up playing 10 games for the Lions in the previous season. He was added to the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs, and following the season, he inked a futures contract with them.
