Everton takeover: US investors close in on stunning deal – sources
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has attracted interest from a number of American investors who want to find a deal to take over the club, sources have told Football Insider.Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Merseysiders are an “attractive proposition” for many interested parties, despite off-field issues.777 Partners failed to secure a £500m takeover for Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in Goodison Park last September.Football Insider revealed last month that Moshiri had been approached by new American bidders regarding the purchase of the Merseyside giants.O’Rourke hopes there will be plenty of interest in Everton in the coming weeks after the news of the 777 takeover broke. The past year has been difficult for Everton due to ownership issues and the profitability and sustainability (PSR) situation. The club received an eight-point deduction for two separate charges last season after it was found to have breached the Premier League’s spending rules. But O’Rourke believes there have been positive signs recently that the takeover situation could be resolved as Moshiri tries to agree a new deal.Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor has revealed he is interested in completing a deal for the Merseyside giants. But the American’s 45 per cent stake in the Selhurst Park club means he would have to offload those shares before buying Everton due to Premier League ownership rules.Crystal Palace is one of four teams in which Textor’s Eagle Football Holdings owns a majority stake in Lyon in France, Botafogo in Brazil and RWD Molenbeek in Belgium.Former Everton boss Keith Wyness has told Football Insider Textor could take over Goodison, putting Crystal Palace’s shares in a “blind trust”.In other news, Everton are ‘confident’ of a deal for Tottenham’s attacking midfielder. For more Everton news and exclusives, follow us on Facebook or join our brand new WhatsApp channel to get instant updates straight to your phone..
