Caitlin Clark reportedly of struggling with a sickness throughout Indiana Fever’s victory over Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
Over the weekend, the 22-year-old created more history by recording her 138th assist of the year, setting a new rookie record for the team. However, Clark was substituted out of the game late on, and when the WNBA star’s team won 88-82, she did not appear in the media. Christie Sides later reported that despite Clark’s impressive performance of 15 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds, she had been feeling sick the entire time. In response to inquiries about her reasoning for benching Clark, the Fever coach maintained that it was a tactical choice. I believed that we needed to make sure we got stops, thus I required a defensive group. That was the main point, she stated.
The WNBA star’s migraine, which she has battled throughout her career, was later confirmed to be the cause of her pain. Clark played 39 minutes and narrowly missed becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double, finishing third on the team in their 88-82 victory over Phoenix, which is home to WNBA legends Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner.
Taurasi, who had cautioned that Clark would have to prepare for a difficult adjustment upon entering the league, complimented the rookie on her handling of the increased level of play. “What Caitlin has accomplished in her brief career thus far is astounding.” It hasn’t been very noteworthy or brief. She is one of my favorite things about her—she is an avid gamer. It’s evident that she worked hard. Even in her brief WNBA career, she has faced numerous challenges and pressures. She consistently turns up and improves with each game.
“She has a very bright future.” It’s kind of amazing to witness that as a veteran and after sitting in the seat for a very long time, especially looking ahead.
