Max Verstappen spotted partying to Taylor Swift at racer’s wedding ahead of US GP
Max Verstappen was spotted letting loose and dancing to a Taylor Swift song at the wedding of a fellow racing driver.
The Dutchman attended the nuptials of Formula E driver Antonio Felix da Costa in Portugal with his partner Kelly Piquet, daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet. The pair were all dressed up for the occasion, with Piquet sharing snaps of the event on social media.
Red Bull racer Verstappen, known for his fierce competitiveness on the track, was seen fist-pumping to a remix of Swift’s 2008 hit ‘Love Story’. But it won’t be long before Verstappen has to refocus on racing, as he looks to maintain his lead in the drivers’ championship over the final six races of the season.
The United States Grand Prix in Austin kicks off a gruelling three-week triple-header, with races following in Mexico and Brazil, Piquet’s homeland. Verstappen has a 52-point lead over nearest rival Lando Norris, though the McLaren driver has been much quicker in recent rounds.
Verstappen will hope to return from his break rejuvenated, having spent little-to-no time at all reading anything about himself. The Dutch ace recently confessed his indifference to F1 gossip during his downtime, reports the Express.
He said: “I’ve been in F1 for 10 years now and I’m not wasting time on all those stories. I mean, I barely read anything about F1 anyway. Of course, sometimes I see something or someone else tells me, ‘Did you see what this and that person said?’
“But I always say people can think what they want – I’m not going to waste my energy on that. So I don’t really care about what other people say.”
Red Bull will bring updates to their RB20 cars for this weekend’s race in Austin. And while Verstappen stopped short of saying the outcome is all-important to his title defenc e, the reality of the situation is not lost on the Dutchman with six rounds remaining in the season.
He said: “I don’t know if it’s make or break, but from now on, of course, we want to make steps forward. When or how it will arrive, I don’t know yet, but we’re just trying to get the balance back together. I think Baku [was] already a small step forward, so we just need to continue that route.
“Of course, in Singapore, you could not really do a lot from Baku, but hopefully with the two, three weeks [of the Autumn break], we can make some further improvements. There are still a few more rounds left where I think we can improve the car, which will also help for next year.”
